The BEAT Evolution

Tremolo Ensemble's Captivating Fusion of Percussion, Movement, and Culture

The Tremolo Ensemble, in a captivating and energetic new performance, The Beat Evolution, is a quintet of virtuoso musicians playing over 40 different percussion instruments from 7 continents. The show allows us to delve into cultures and get to know the beat that connects us all.

The performance transcends time and place, where the beat is the musical element leading the way, from Mesopotamia to Mayan culture, from Africa to India, from jazz to rock and contemporary music, and into the future.

The Beat Evolution show is an energetic and captivating theatrical fusion of music, movement, video art, and sound, a collaboration of Tremolo with video, theater, and electronic music artist.

Percussion instruments have accompanied humans since the dawn of history. Like many discoveries, the drum was stumbled upon by ancient humans accidentally. Leftover pieces of meat from hunting expeditions were placed in deep pits dug into the cool earth, and over them were spread the skins of the hunted animals to preserve the meat from the sun and scavengers. The skin, placed over the pit in the evening towards the night, was cool and taut, and with the sunrise, the skin warmed up and stretched over the pit, which now became a resonating chamber. When humans pressed on the stretched skin with their hands or with sticks, a sound was produced, thus revealing the first drum!

In ancient times the rhythm/the beatserved as a powerful tool for conveying messages in religious ceremonies, in battles, and in everyday life. Today, the beat continues to play a significant role in modern culture. It connects us to each other and makes us feel part of something greater.

From the battlefield and military ceremonies to prayers in the synagogue, children's songs in school, and stormy rock performances - the beat is present everywhere. It is the pulsating heart of music, immediately connecting us to deep emotions, our shared humanity, and our ancient past. Especially in the current era, where we experience an increasing sense of disconnection and alienation, the beat connects us and unites us into one large community.
